Denver to Silverthorne and Keystone Road Conditions: I-70 and Eisenhower Tunnel

Static image, not a live camera. Live status for this trip is pending COtrip connection.

From Denver, I-70 heads west through Idaho Springs and Georgetown, through the Eisenhower Johnson Memorial Tunnel, to Silverthorne. Silverthorne is the junction town just west of the tunnel, and Keystone is a short drive from the Silverthorne and Dillon area. This trip is shorter than Denver to Vail, but it still crosses the highest point on the Interstate Highway System at the tunnel, so winter rules and live tunnel status matter just as much. The Keystone access road is unverified in prep, so no route number is published for that leg here.

Good to know

  • Traction Law is in effect Sep 1 to May 31 on the I-70 Mountain Corridor between Dotsero and Morrison, per CDOT.
  • If the Passenger Vehicle Chain Law is in effect, every vehicle must have chains or an approved alternative traction device.
  • Check the Eisenhower Tunnel and Vail Pass separately where the route uses them. If the tunnel is closed to your vehicle type, check US-6 Loveland Pass as an alternate, and check its live status separately.
