Denver to Vail Road Conditions: I-70, Eisenhower Tunnel, and Vail Pass

Static image, not a live camera. Live status for this trip is pending COtrip connection.
From Denver, I-70 heads west up the Mountain Corridor, through Idaho Springs and Georgetown, through the Eisenhower Johnson Memorial Tunnel under the Continental Divide, through Silverthorne, and over Vail Pass to Vail. This is a high mountain drive for almost the whole route, so check the tunnel and Vail Pass separately before you leave. A clear valley forecast does not mean the summit is clear.
Good to know
- Traction Law is in effect Sep 1 to May 31 on the I-70 Mountain Corridor between Dotsero and Morrison, per CDOT.
- If the Passenger Vehicle Chain Law is in effect, every vehicle must have chains or an approved alternative traction device.
- Check the Eisenhower Tunnel and Vail Pass separately where the route uses them. If the tunnel is closed to your vehicle type, check US-6 Loveland Pass as an alternate, and check its live status separately.
