Grand Junction to Denver Road Conditions: I-70 Eastbound, Vail Pass, and Eisenhower Tunnel

Static image, not a live camera. Live status for this trip is pending COtrip connection.
From Grand Junction, I-70 heads east through Glenwood Springs and Eagle, over Vail Pass, through Silverthorne, and through the Eisenhower Johnson Memorial Tunnel, then down through Georgetown and Idaho Springs to Denver. This is the full Mountain Corridor in reverse, so check Vail Pass first, then the tunnel, then the lower corridor. Conditions in Grand Junction, on the Western Slope, do not predict conditions at the tunnel or at Vail Pass.
Good to know
- Traction Law is in effect Sep 1 to May 31 on the I-70 Mountain Corridor between Dotsero and Morrison, per CDOT.
- If the Passenger Vehicle Chain Law is in effect, every vehicle must have chains or an approved alternative traction device.
- Check the Eisenhower Tunnel and Vail Pass separately where the route uses them. If the tunnel is closed to your vehicle type, check US-6 Loveland Pass as an alternate, and check its live status separately.
